Viac o knihe Stephen Boleslav Roman - Uranium King (Joseph M. Burza)
The English edition of the book about Štefan Boleslav Roman (Stephen Boleslav Roman), the most prominent entrepreneur of Slovak origin in history. Due to the scale of his achievements and influence, he is often compared to Milan Rastislav Štefánik. His company, Denison Mines Corp., owned the largest uranium mines in the world. By the mid-1960s, the value of his companies was estimated at 70 billion dollars.
Štefan B. Roman’s legal advisor was none other than future U.S. President Richard Nixon. He was the owner of the largest coal mines in Canada, as well as the second-largest bakery network in the United States – General Baki. His company, Romandale Farms, purchased a breeding cow at auction for $1.45 million – a record-breaking transaction that was entered into the Guinness Book of Records.
In 1970, he founded the most significant Slovak organization in history – the World Congress of Slovaks – in New York City, where he served as chairman. In Canada, he commissioned the construction of the Cathedral of the Transfiguration (tal. Cattedrale della Trasfigurazione, slov. Katedrála Premenenia Pána), home to the largest bells in the country. The cathedral was personally consecrated by Pope John Paul II in 1984.
The book includes forewords by Roman’s eldest son Stephen, the President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini, former Presidents Rudolf Schuster and Ivan Gašparovič, Deputy Prime Minister Tomáš Taraba, and Cardinal Jozef Tomko.
